Mother’s Day

Day 13 = mom

As I’ve said before, Mother’s Day is always a little sad for me now.  My mom’s absence always hangs a little heavier on my heart.

My mom, age 18

But it’s’ pretty much like any other day otherwise.  I don’t get breakfast in bed or anything like that.  My boys are 5 and 8, so that’s a little much to expect from them.  Maybe next year! ;-)

My sister Michelle and I did visit my Nana in the nursing home.  The kids brought cards they had made for her.  We ended up staying longer than I thought we would be able to.  It helps there is this great outdoor courtyard area for the kids to run around in if they start to get too restless.

Allie and Sam took turns sitting on Nana’s lap. Max kept himself entertained with Michelle’s iPhone.  I got a picture of Sam and Allie with Nana but wasn’t able to get one of her with Max.

I think my Nana knows Max has autism, but still doesn’t really understand why he is so quiet and hangs back from her.  I think she was a little hurt when he wouldn’t say goodbye to her, but even when he does speak he is so quiet, she can’t really hear him.

On the whole though, it was nice visit and a pretty good day.

Day 12 = something that makes me happy

My mother-in-law bought this bike trailer for me, (I think for Christmas) at least four years ago.  I’ve used it as stroller but never got hooked up to a bike until today, and I did it all by myself!

That makes me pretty darn happy.

Hey Girl, You’re Better Than the Best

May 11, 2012 by Jenny

Once again, here is my contribution to Special Needs Ryan Gosling Friday.

Normally I try to have these posts ready to go the day before, but never got around to it yesterday.  So I did these quickly this morning.  Hopefully you like them anyway.

Why didn’t I?  I blame Ryan, he was in such a silly mood!  He kept goofing around, trying to make me laugh.

And then he wanted to go for  a walk and insisted I bring my camera

He let me know how much he appreciates everything I do.

And told me about the fantastic Mother’s Day he has planned for me.

Who could blame me for not getting anything done? ;-)

If you like this meme, and how could you not, be sure to check out
Sunday Stilwell’s blog for more Ryan Gosling #HeyGirl fun!

I’ve been told again and again my taste in books, music, whatever, is pretty eclectic.

It’s Just Me

Day 6 = you

Not much to say here.  It’s just me.  I always like they picture of me best with the boys in them.  Maybe when it’s me alone I feel too exposed.  When the boys are in the picture too, I know people are looking at them more than me anyway!

How I saved $123.99 Yesterday Without Even Trying

May 6, 2012 by Jenny

During a pretty darn successful day of garage sailing yesterday, Sam found this Spiderman Sit n’ Spin for a dollar.   I almost said no, mostly because I’m sure how much longer he’ll be able to fit on it.  But how could I look at that little face and say no?  Well I didn’t, but I totally could have.  In theory.  And it was only a dollar.  Plus I found this hypnotic flashing light thing at the same garage sale for his brother Max that cost ten dollars.

Hey Sam, Max got this cool flashing light thing, but don’t worry, I bought you many, many pairs of shorts!  Kids love clothes!

Yeah, no.

Anyway after I came home I looked up  Sit ‘N Spin Spiderman on amazon and found some place that is asking $124.99, which seems a tad (extremely) high for a toy that probably retailed for around 25 bucks, even if it is discontinued.

But then I decided to look at it from the bright (and deluded side) of things.  I totally saved $123.99!

Go me!
