My older son Max has autism, and he does not enjoy summer vacation.
He loves school and summer is just a huge change in schedule for him. He does have summer school and that helps. But it’s only for part of the summer and it’s not in the same building or even with all the same people.
The longer days also make it harder for him to sleep too.
When I was a kid I loved summer vacation.
I no longer love summer.
We aren’t even friends anymore.

I feel for you. My son always did better during the summer when he had summer school too.
My girls are going to summer school. Can I get an amen? Splash pad..what is a splash pad?
A splash pad is sort of like a fountain that sprays water at ground level so there is no standing water, so kids can run around and play in it.
I guess you could say it’s the water park version of sprinklers.
There are some good pictures of them here: http://www.homesplashpad.com/
I feel for you. I really do. Summers used to be awful for our family too. It has finally gotten better last year only because we finally found a summer camp that really works for him. It will get better. You and Summer will be friends again.
Thanks! I really hope so!
That first one was me on Monday when I realized that school was ending two days earlier than I had anticipated!
I completely feel your pain. I hate summer breaks. We moved to Ireland from California and cannot believe how long the days are. In a few weeks from now, the sun will rise at 4am and set around 10:30pm, not getting dark until almost midnight. Which reminds me I need to stock up on melatonin.
Mix the crazy daylight with no routine of school and I’m ready for September come day 2. Love your Ryans.
I feel for you. There were a few years where I could not leave the house to water the plants or check the mail without the kids screaming for me. Like spread-eagle “Elaine!!!” screaming from a bedroom window that faced the street. It slowly got better over several more years. They still don’t like to go outside because the way flies and bees *sound* :/
